Cinco de May Celebration, 2004

On May 2, 2004, for the second year, Quisqueyana co-sponsored the Mexican celebration of the Battle of Puebla, also known as Cinco de Mayo, in Flushing Meadow Parks, Queens. Over 700,000 people attended this event, which celebrated Mexican music, food and culture. In past years, we have sponsored events such as a concert at Madison Square Gardens to celebrate the independence of Spanish speaking countries from Spain and a comedy show at the United Palace in Washington Heights featuring popular Dominican comedians.

Sports Sponsorship

In 2004, Quisqueyana began sponsoring the following sports teams:

  • Morris Little League - two Little League teams in the Bronx

  • Liga Hispana de Softball de Passaic - an adult softball league in Passaic

  • Confraternidad - an adult softball team in Washington Heights, on which a number of our employees play

We supply the team uniforms and occasionally sponsor trophy and end-of-season celebrations.

Donation Centers for Jimaní Flood Victims

In May 2004, the Jimaní region of the Dominican Republic was devastated by flooding. Quisqueyana established collection centers at its offices and branches in New York and Puerto Rico to collect donations of canned foods, clothes, sheets and medicine. By early June, we collected over half a trucking container of donations, which we shipped at our expense to the Dominican Republic. We coordinated our efforts with the El Gordo de la Semana foundation, a respected Dominican charity, which distributed the goods upon their arrival in Jimaní

Hostos Community College (CUNY)

Hostos Community College is located in the Bronx and serves many of its immigrant communities.   At its Dominican Independence celebration in February, 2004, we sponsored the participation of Sonia Silvestre, a well-known Dominican singer and honoree at the celebration. In addition, we have supported the college's scholarship fund.
